On the way to work<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

He\nkissed his girl goodbye and patted his son’s head as he went in for work. It\nwas 6:45, he had a long drive ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting in his car he put\nhis backpack on the passenger side. Buckled and looked in his rearview. His\nfamily waving in the reflection as he left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 He turned the radio\non and started jamming out. He merged on the high way and headed west. The moon\non the horizon glowed even as the sun came up. He could make out the few cities\nthat inhabited the lunar surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Oh to live there and\nhave no worries would be the life.” He always talked about taking a trip\nup to see the sights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 As he stared he\nthought he saw something. A line on the moon appeared. He rubbed his eyes\nthinking it was an eyelash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The line grew like a\nweb… and the moon started splitting in two. Then three. Then four. Then even\nmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cars in front of him\nslammed their breaks. Others tried to veer away from the standstill and smashed\ninto each other. He quickly dodged car after car a quickly took the exit.\nHe had to get back. Back to his family. Sirens started blaring. Warning of the\nimpending doom. He quickly hit the intercom on the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phone rang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She answered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Don’t let our son go\nto the bus. Hold him there.” He cried out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Why? She asked.\n“What was happening?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He floored his car.\nLooking in the rearview he could see the chunks start getting closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Turn on the news.\nWhat are they saying?” He asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The was a short pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Something happened\nwith the drill!? Terrorist!” She exclaimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I need you to get to\nthe basement,” He knew it wouldn’t save them.  “I’m only two\nminutes away.” He said as he pushed harder on the pedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He rushed to his home and\npulled into the driveway. Getting out of the car he ran to the doorstep. She\nwas waiting for him as she held their crying son. She looked at him but he had\nno answers. He held her hand. The chunks started to hit all around them as they\nheld each other close…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He violently awoke\ndrenched in sweat. He was still in bed however his morning alarm was going off.\nHe looked around the room. His girl was walking out of the bathroom from her\nshower. There were muffled voices coming from the television screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “You would not\nbelieve the dream I had.” He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 She took the towel\noff to her and started drying her hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “Oh,\nreally.” She said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “It was\nabout….” He paused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “What?”\nShe asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 His body had chills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The lunar drill will be going live any minute…” the voice on the television said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: I had this vision on my way to work; in which the light hit the moon just right to look like it was coming apart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
